Innovative Design Competition to Develop Next Generation Applications for Portable Power

Summary
Monday, August 1st, 2011- Ascent Solar, the leader in the research and manufacturing
of thin film flexible solar panels has announced its sponsorship of a national student design competition, to help encourage the development of new and innovative uses of solar in portable power. Ascent's lightweight & flexible modules are a tranformational technology which will enable design ideas for portable power never previously envisioned

Requirements & Goals
The Ascent Solar Innovative Design Competition, open to college students from across the United States, requires the design and application of Ascent Solar's flexible
solar modules to new portable uses. The competition is designed to impose the minimum amount of restrictions on the entrants, allowing the competitors to use both imagination and ingenuity when designing applications.

Judging Process
The Innovative Design Competition, will be judged by members of the Ascent Solar engineering and product development teams, rating projects on their ingenuity,
usefulness and ability to transform the market for the product.

Registration
Registration for the Innovative Design Competition will open in early August via www.ascentsolar.com/idcsignup and will be open to student teams of up to five people as well as individuals who choose to participate. Interested students may visit www.ascentsolar.com/competition to learn more about the Innovative Design competition as well as Ascent's solar technology.

Awards
Cash awards of $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 will be given to the top three teams respectively. In addition the first place team will be flown out to Ascent's production
facility in Thornton, CO. While on site the team will be given their award, as well as a tour of the manufacturing facility and will be given the chance to interview
for internships with Ascent.
