Device Engineer
Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc. is a developer of thin-film photovoltaic modules with substrate materials that can be more flexible and affordable than most traditional solar panels. We are looking for a qualified PV Device Integration Engineer to join our world manufacturing headquarters located in Thornton, Colorado.
Responsibilities:
• The PV Device Integration Engineer provides technical leadership in the manufacturing improvement of solar cell devices.
• Electrical, electro-optical, and physical characterization of solar cells, sub-modules, and completed solar modules.
• Develops or supports the development of new performance improvements through the analysis of existing production data or experimental designs, establishment of process/product design criteria for particular improvement approaches, and fabrication and testing of devices or test structures to validate the new process/product/tool design
• Evaluation and qualification of new processing technologies - performance, capability, reliability, and cost.
• Utilizes a broad suite of optical and electrical characterization methods and interprets results delivering direction for further development
• Identifies needs and establishes solutions for new characterization techniques in support of specific development or manufacturing programs
• Drives the transfer of ideas and improvement concepts to practical use in manufacturing.
• Collaborates across the manufacturing and development organizations and is effective in leading teams in achieving results
• Support the handling of hazardous waste material in accordance to federal, state and local regulations; individual will be trained (upon hire and annually) for the requirements of safe handling and proper disposal of any material deemed to be hazardous and the proper use of PPE for this activity
Requirements:
• Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• Masters or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field, e.g. Electrical Engineering, Solid State Physics, Materials Science (Electronic Materials), etc.
• 5+ years experience in Device Integration of a solar product (cell or module) in high volume manufacture or related manufacturing industry (homo or hetero-junction semiconductor devices like LEDs, Lasers, Detectors, Imaging sensors, power devices, etc.); must have some solar product experience to be considered.
• Expertise in photovoltaic metrology tools and analytical techniques - XRF, PL, EL, IR, etc. Characterization of thin films and semiconductor material interfaces is a plus.
• Proficient in the application of JMP, DOE, SPC, and root cause problem solving in a manufacturing environment to drive data-driven decision making. Extensive skill in utilizing and developing advanced numerical data analysis capability is expected
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels in the organization.
• Demonstrated ability in effective time management and organizational skills to meet targeted deadlines
• Self-motivated in learning best practices and applying them in new processes.
• Demonstrated abilities to solve diverse and complex problems through a combination of experimentation, characterization, and analysis
