History

Ascent Solar was formed in October 2005 from the spinout by ITN Energy, Inc. (ITN) of its Advanced Photovoltaic Division and its division's key personnel and core technologies. ITN founded global solar in 1996 to manufacture flexible CIGS thin-film technology using a steel substrate. This experience led to the development of Ascent Solar's thin-film CIGS technology on plastic substrates, the only company producing thin-film on flexible plastic today.
