Title: Vice
President of Manufacturing
Reports To: President
Ascent Solar, subsidiary of ITN Energy Systems, a technologically
advanced manufacturer of thin-film solar cells seeks a VP of Manufacturing.
We are presently developing a full scale manufacturing facility
for the production of CIGS solar cells on plastic substrate. The
development leading to initial manufacturing operations will occur
during the next 18 months. We are looking to hire an experienced
manufacturing operations leader to help achieve this goal.
Responsibilities:
Vice President of manufacturing will have full scope responsibility
for the company’s product rapid proto typing and manufacturing
operations activities: including transition from R&D to production
implementation, customer specific product manufacturing, document
control, materials inventory control, product reliability and quality
controls and coordination with other departments. Ensure that all
manufacturing operations fall within established budgets, schedules
and targets. Conduct long-range studies of manufacturing operations
to maximize workflow and equipment/space utilization. Evaluates
and establishes key vendor partnerships. The Vice President will
coordinate with peers in developing a strategic manufacturing operating
plan.
Specific accountabilities for this position include:
- Build and recommend strategic operating, capital equipment,
technology, quality control and staffing plans for the next generation
production line.
- Develop a comprehensive manufacturing operations budget and
end to end product delivery system.
- Develop a culture that focuses on ethics, customers, quality,
compliance, and service; demonstrates an elevated sense of urgency;
facilitates change; and cultivates employee development and accountability.
- Evaluate practices, methods, processes and policies to develop
a prioritized strategic plan to accommodate accelerating growth.
- Assure an agile production environment to optimally address
changing business opportunities.
- Institutionalize continuous improvement through the introduction
of the appropriate manufacturing techniques (e.g. lean mfg.,
six sigma).
- Provide required training for employees, including skills,
processes, regulatory compliance, quality, business information.
- Assure the continuing capacity for uncompromising adherence
to ISO 9000 manufacturing standards.
- Meet product delivery schedules without compromising quality
standards or regulatory (or legal) compliance.
- Partner with finance to develop the right business metrics,
analyze manufacturing results and costs, and drive continuous
improvements.
- Develop a manufacturing-wide focus on improved cost performance
in: materials and inventories; rework and scrap; equipment; staffing
and services.
- Remain current and knowledgeable of evolving production practices,
technical and materials advances, legal and regulatory changes,
and industry trends.
- Develop partnership agreements with key supply chain vendors
in order to ensure the timely delivery of quality product at
controlled cost.
MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE / SKILLS REQUIRED
- Maintain a hands-on leadership style which insures the integration
and coordination of manufacturing, test and quality control to
insure the products are producible at the quantity, cost and
quality levels demanded by the company and its customers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and lead all facets
of a comprehensive manufacturing operation from the ground up.
- Work closely with the President/CEO and other key members of
the management team to set agendas for achieving tactical and
strategic goals and position the manufacturing effort to take
a principal role in supporting those goals.
- Develop a vision which anticipates the current and future needs
of the manufacturing operation so that design for manufacturability
issues are implemented on a continual basis and applied to existing
and future products.
- Develop a close relationship with sales, marketing and the
customers and implement an end-to-end, sales-to-product delivery
management system that is responsive to customer requirements
including product support and performance evaluation of the products
in the field. Recommend and implement appropriate changes in
the manufacturing processes to improve overall product acceptability.
- Work closely with engineering to provide inputs which will
streamline the engineering/manufacturing process so that future
new product development efforts address the details necessary
to insure a smooth introduction into manufacturing.
- Develop and manage the manufacturing budgets (inventory and
expenses) consistent with meeting the goals of the company.
- Lead teams in process improvement projects and be flexible
enough to allow full participation in the process for all team
members.
- Develop a vision for the plant and identify opportunities for
process and product improvements that will enable growth into
new markets.
- Proven track record of business success.
- Must be a “floor person”…very hands on.
- Must have a track record as a strong team builder and leader.
PREFERRED TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
- High volume photovoltaic or similar production (i.e. semiconductor,
disk drive industries)
- Thin-film vacuum deposition equipment and processes (sputter,
thermal evaporation, CVD, PVD)
- In-line deposition of multi-layer thin film devices
- Statistical process control methods, tools, data acquisition,
Design of Experiments etc.
- CIGS, CIS, materials structures, diagnostics, (SEM, XRF, OES,
etc)
- Solar Cell characterization and testing
- Factory automation
- Vacuum deposition systems, components, utilities, controls
- MRP/ERP systems
- Yield and process improvement methodologies
- Failure analysis
EDUCATION: Advance degree in Engineering with
product manufacturing & management experience for 10 plus years. |
